Hi everyone!
Well, it’s official! The FRC season is over. Where did the time go? It seems like we had our first preseason meeting a few weeks ago!! We had an exciting and eventful season, what with changing and improving Ada between all our competitions, winning Chairman’s, going to Champs, winning awards, and meeting so many new people!
We’re sad to see it end, but there’s always next year to look forward to. And in the meantime we’ve got lots and lots of outreach to do!
Outreach is the way Girls of Steel tries to spread the message of FIRST, recruit students for our programs, and just basically help everyone we can learn more about the STEM fields. Recently, we’ve had some super exciting outreach opportunities! Here are just a few of them:
In April, we participated in the Robotics Institute Open House, which was held as part of the celebrations for National Robotics Week. We demoed Atlas, last year’s robot, and met some girls who seemed quite interested in joining Girls of Steel. (Fingers crossed!) We also set the Girls of Steel record for the youngest robot driver- 3 years old!
We also were lucky enough to be able to attend the PAECT Student Showcase at the Capitol Building in Harrisburg PA a few weeks ago. We demoed Atlas again, gave out bandana strips, and met members of Miss Daisy, FRC 341 , and spread the word about Girls of Steel. AND we got to tour the capitol, and saw all the other awesome projects people were presenting! It was a lot of fun; hopefully we’ll get the opportunity to go again next year!
We’ve also got some exciting things lined up for summer; everything from running an FLL camp, to doing our chassis project at our local library, to being TA’s at a summer exchange program for high school students from China! It’s going to be one heck of a summer, and we couldn’t be more excited!!
