This week in our preseason meeting, we began with a presentation by Mr. Eppinger, who explained the step by step process of how to access and use the Girls of Steel affiliated Amazon website. After this helpful session, Patti announced the winner of the previous week’s talent time – great job to these girls who participated :)!
Next, the girls split up into their business sub teams. In media, the girls were assigned various jobs to focus working on, including the Girls of Steel YouTube account, Five Awesome Robots, Tumblr account, Rookie Firsts, Twitter, and Vine account. Be sure to check out these accounts as they grow throughout the season! The finance sub team members researched women CEOs in the Pittsburgh area. They also discussed the Sarris Candies fundraiser and FIRST Esaver light bulb fundraiser that we are raising money through. In outreach, the girls worked on updating and creating event pages.
After business, the girls went into their technical sub teams. The girls in the mechanical sub team continued to work on the “waving Rosie arm.” They also continued to polish their skills in welding and received a study guide for a quiz they will complete next week. On the CAD sub team, girls started to wrap up their CAD project on the shifter chassis. In the electrical sub team, the girls re-wired the beta bot to CAN electronics. The girls in programming got into the details of encoders and motor controls. We can’t wait for SCRA Workshops this Sunday! If you can’t make it, look out for a post about it next week!
