On Tuesday, March 1st, we kicked off competition season in an exciting way – a meeting with SWE- Society of Women Engineers from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). SWE visited us at CMU to talk with GoS and offer advice and counsel about being women in STEM. We met in small groups with several CMU students from a wide variety of engineering fields. After about five minutes, the CMU students switched to a new group. That way they were able to meet with all of us. Here are some quotes from Girls of Steel members about the influential visit:
“It was a really great experience to hear about all the different types of engineering that I could major in in college. I was inspired to hear about all the women in engineering.”.
“ It gave wonderful insight on the future of women in STEM!”
“ It was very inspiring and opened my eyes to different fields and paths of engineering”
“ I was inspired by the empowered women confident in their choices in STEM “
“ The women provided guidance to us Girls of Steel as well as inspiring us by telling us their profession paths.”
“ A really great experience to hear about all the different types of engineering that I could major in in college. I was inspired to hear about all the women in engineering. “
We are very thankful to be able to meet with the Society of Women Engineers because of the like minded empowerment of women in STEM. As an all girls team in a male dominated field, meeting with SWE was a positive, encouraging way to kick off competition season.
